I have one regret. Not bad in 40 something years but still its there.
I would love to be able to play a musical instrument, a guitar to be precise.
Through School I had the opportunity, I was into music and the gig scene but I never took up the opportunity.
Since then its been an irritant. I achieved most of my life goals in one way or another and really now have one thing on my bucket list. This blog is a record of my quest to put this right.
There have been many false starts - I've owned several guitars over the last 30 years but never seemed to crack the whole music thing.
I have reasons (excuses) - don't we all but here are mine. My first resolution is that from now on they will cease to be obstacles preventing me succeeding and become parameters to define my practice regime.
- I work for a living. Spending on average 12- 13 hours a day out of the house.
- I have a family complete with dopey the dog. I like to spend time with them and also I enjoy cooking meals as my partner also works
- Points one to three mean it is a challenge to find a paid tutor that can be as flexible as I need and the time cost of even a regular hour a week is prohibitive for me.
- Finally I'm a gamer - I like to play pc games but have a limited boredom threshold - I like challenges but if I cant progress I get distracted or bored.
So where to start?
At school I had free access to resources and guidance but ignored it. Over the years I have dabbled with various books and fallen short. Recently the internet has thrown up hundreds 'online' courses , tutorials and more. This blog is a record of my quest to find a path into and through those resources. My observations and opinions on getting the most from these tools and hopefully a record of my success !
